Castello di Amorosa – Napa Valley Royal Experience

Castello di Amorosa is located in the Napa Valley, California. With over 500 wineries in the Napa Valley, only one will make visitors feel like royalty: Castello di Amorosa.

I have always been fascinated with Italian medieval architecture and with Castello di Amorosa, Dario Sattui brings the slice of Italy to the Napa Valley.  Nearly twenty years ago, Dario purchased this spectacular property upon which he built Castillo Di Amorosa. Dario was determined to erect the most beautiful and interesting building in North America that would showcase great wines and for people to remember history that many of the great wines in Europe have and are still being made in castles.

The castle is built totally authentic incorporating every element of a real 12th- 13th century Tuscan castle with fortified walls, five towers, courtyards, archways, secret passageways and a Tuscan farmhouse. There is a big kitchen and a great hall with beautiful fresco.

The castle has wine fermenting rooms, a church and chapel and even a prison and a torture chamber. The fun part is that you get to see all of it during your tour and learn so much about the architecture of the medieval castles.

During the tour, you will visit the underground caves and cellars. The wines are aged in the underground caves; the perfect environment for aging wine with cool, constant temperature and high humidity.

Castillo di Amorosa produces some of the best wines in the world and it is definitely a winery fit for a king. More than 30 acres are devoted to growing merlot, sangiovese, and primitivo grapes, but the cabernet sauvignon grapes are the vineyard’s pride and joy. During your visit to Castello di Amorosa, be sure to tour the vineyard to see these grapes on the vine or witness the harvest.

We took a guided tour through the Castello followed by a tasting of 5 premium wines in one of the private tasting bars. All tours feature a barrel tasting and include a complimentary tasting of the winery current releases. Tours are approximately 1 ¾ hours in length. The walking portion of the tour is approximately 60 minutes followed by a 45 minute private tasting of handcrafted Italian-style wines.
