How to Score Best Hotel Deals

Accommodation is one of the biggest expense of traveling and lowering that by finding the best hotel deals can help you save money for other activities.

Staying at a nice hotel doesn’t mean you have to break a bank. Here are a few tips that can help you find the best hotel deals for your next trip.

01

Decide Location

Since everyone has different needs when searching for a hotel, you will need to ask yourself what’s more important to you. Before selecting a particular hotel location, check the hotel ratings and read the reviews of other travelers on various websites.
I would suggest that you start your search by looking for hotel deals close to the main attractions.

It’s not just to save money, you also want to save time to make your trip more enjoyable.

02

Book in Advance vs. Last Minute

Whether to book accommodation in advance or last-minute, it all depends on the place and season. If you are traveling to popular destinations during a peak season, I would highly recommend making reservations at least 2 months in advance to ensure room availability and to avoid last-minute price increases.
If you have a flexible itinerary and you are traveling during the off-peak season, then you can score surprisingly low rates by waiting until the last minute. The hotels sometimes offer last-minute discounts to fill their empty rooms.

03

Travel during off-peak Season

The holidays, summer and the winter breaks are usually the peak season for most destinations. Traveling during off-peak season mean cheaper flights and definitely great hotel deals. Before you start planning, try to check if the place you want to go even has an off-peak season.
Some destinations have an off-peak season because kids are back to school; others could be due to season changes.

If your destination has an off-peak season, then make sure you check with the hotel in advance, as some places are temporarily closed due to slow business.

04

Bundle Hotel & Flight Booking

Bundling hotel, flight, and car rental can sometimes be a very effective way to save money especially if you are planning your travel at the last minute. Before booking a bundle package for your destination, compare the prices at the airline and hotel’s website to make sure you are getting a great deal.

It is important to understand that if you want more flexibility, then a vacation package may not be for you.

05

Last minute Hotel Deals

Checking into a hotel near the end of the day can often score you a free upgrade or great price. A lot of hotels have a better idea of occupancy at the end of the day and are most likely to offer you free upgrades and other perks.

This option works best during off-peak travel seasons for most locations.

06

Check for Credit Card Offers

A lot of credit cards providers are partners with online travel agencies that offer discounts on reservations at select hotels and resorts. You can also earn cash back bonus and miles rewards from travel purchases made with your credit card.
Before you book a flight, hotel or car rental, it is worth taking a look at your credit card partnerships with various companies that are offering discounts, free upgrades, and even a free weekend day.

07

Hotel’s Reward Programs

Many hotels have loyalty or reward programs that offer free nights or best rates. There are also some hotel loyalty programs that involve automatic perks just for joining.

If you are not a big fan of massive chain hotels, there are many boutique hotels providing travelers with reward programs.

08

Call the Hotel Directly

These days you can do most of your research online, but sometimes it still pays to pick up the phone. Calling a hotel directly, rather than dialing a chain’s main 1-800 number might get you a great hotel deal at the last minute or during peak travel times.

The 1-800 numbers usually offer set rates, but if you call the hotel directly, you can negotiate for upgrades and other perks.
